Are your relationships healthy? Here are 13 signs to look for.

In our daily lives, we establish numerous relationships with the people around us. Friendships, acquaintances, working relationships, and romantic relationships are a few of the main connections we make.

But how do we know if the relationships we form are healthy? Andrea Bonior Ph.D. discusses 13 signs to look for in her article What Does a Healthy Relationship Look Like?.

It’s important to learn how to identify when a relationship is going well. Many people are unsure of what to look for, or worse yet, they don't know all the positives that they truly deserve to have within a relationship.

If someone grew up watching their parents or other family members act out chronically toxic patterns, that person may very well come to define those patterns as "normal" and have difficulty understanding the baseline of what a good relationship looks like.

Healthy, functional relationships have these characteristics, which apply especially to committed romantic relationships. They shouldn't be optional. And when they are missing, it's important to address the problem:

1. Trust

2. Communication

3. Patience

4. Empathy

5. Affection and Interest

6. Flexibility

7. Appreciation

8. Room for Growth

9. Respect

10. Reciprocity

11. Healthy Conflict Resolution

12. Individuality and Boundaries

13. Openness and Honesty
