It’s hard to believe 2019 is coming to an end and we are preparing for a new year. As you finish out this last month of the year, it's easy to think you've lost the opportunity to make any changes in order to finish strong in your business, personal, or health goals.
It is so tempting to not make meaningful life changes when you are trying to get through parties, shopping, and travel during the holiday season. But the truth is postponing your goals until the new year can actually be demotivating.
In fact, NOW is the best time to make simple changes that could turn into major results in 2020. No matter what your goals are for the new year, here are five simple changes that can give you a head start into 2020:
1. End those bad habits.
Identify the habits that are harmful to your mental, spiritual, or physical health. If it doesn’t add value to your life or your loved ones, it’s time to go. Replace the old with new, healthy habits that will leave you feeling fulfilled and ready to take on a new year.
2. Start taking baby steps.
This one can really make an impact in terms of health and wellness. Try to take small steps, like taking the stairs instead of riding the elevator. Drink water instead of sugar-filled drinks. Eat an apple instead of a sweet treat. Get some fresh air and take a nice walk. You’ll thank yourself for being intentional. Remember to celebrate the small wins!
3. Be active in your free time.
It is so tempting to completely shut down after a long week of work, errands, taking care of your family, and just living life. Relaxation is a great thing, but a 12-hour Netflix binge might not leave you feeling any less exhausted. It’s important to use some of your free time stimulating your brain. Spend some quality fun time with family or friends and invest time in your passions that get you off the couch!
4. Treat December like any other working month.
This one is so hard for many businesses with team members taking more time off, having fewer working days, and team members daydreaming at work of those upcoming holiday get-togethers. Taking time off is good for the soul yet it’s still so important to maintain productivity during your work time in December. Don’t let the holidays cause you or your team to stop striving for the best results possible for your business!
5. Take time to plan for what you want.
In order to accomplish your goals in 2020, you absolutely have to be in the right frame of mind. Take time to think about what you really need/want to accomplish and start brainstorming ways to implement changes that will help you reach your goals. Think about what is important to you and why. Think about ways to achieve your goals and what things might get in your way. Set a plan in place and work on it step by step finding accountability along the way. At the end of the day, you are responsible for your own success. I know you can do it!
As you wrap up what I hope was a successful 2019, don’t let the craziness of the holidays deter you from being intentional with making needed changes in your life. The best time to start is NOW!
Wishing you a successful start to your 2020 goals,
